Annual Giving

Why Support the Annual Fund?

  • Tuition covers only 81% of a Potomac education.  The Annual Fund helps reduce this gap and provide funding for critical budget needs throughout the School.
  • Each generation of students benefits from the generation that preceded it, and it is the role of today’s families to lay the groundwork for future generations.  Your gift will uphold Potomac’s longtime tradition of stewardship.
  • Contributions to the Annual Fund are tax-deductible, and can assist with lowering your tax liability.
  • Every gift counts.  Regardless of the size of your gift, you can take pride in knowing that you are participating in upholding Potomac’s standards of excellence.
  • Continued support of the Annual Fund will help ensure immediate needs are always met.

How Can I Help?

Last year, gifts from parents, alumni, grandparents, parents of alumni, faculty, staff, and friends totaled more than $1.4 million, and helped to guarantee that Potomac maintains its tradition of delivering a first-rate educational experience.

We invite you to make a gift to the fund of your choice for the 2007-08 school year.

Contributions of any size are welcome, and will make a difference in the life of every Potomac student.  Many companies match employee and retiree charitable contributions.  Please check with your employer to find out if your contribution to The Potomac School can be doubled or tripled in value.

At the heart of the Potomac community is a tradition of service. The Annual Fund provides one of many volunteer opportunities available to the community. Six committees organize mailings, write personal notes, participate in phonathons and serve as ambassadors for the effort. Over 100 volunteers help us reach the School’s goal each year. Please contact the Alumni Office at 1-800-725-8664 or alumni@potomacschool.org if you are interested in volunteering.

While undesignated funds give the School the greatest flexibility to put the funds where they are most needed, you may designate your gift to one or more of the following funds:

Unrestricted (area of greatest need)

Maintains strong educational programs, a broad range of extra-curricular activities, talented educators, and excellent campus resources.

Athletics

Supports an outstanding range of age-appropriate K-12 programs that ensure every Potomac student is on track to benefit from a lifelong necessary commitment to healthy living (interscholastic teams, strength and conditioning and physical education classes.)

Faculty Professional Development

Offers the faculty opportunities and financial support for ongoing professional growth and development, which ultimately benefits each Potomac student.

Financial Aid

Enables us to grant need based financial assistance offering a Potomac education to families of varying economic backgrounds.

Fine and Performing Arts

Inspires creativity in each student through programs in theater, the fine arts and music which incorporate history and appreciation of cultures worldwide.

Technology

Integrates technology resources into all aspects of the curriculum, preparing students for an ever changing world.

What is the Difference Between the Annual Fund and The Campaign for Potomac’s Future?

In short, the Annual Fund addresses the needs of today’s students, while the Campaign provides for the students of tomorrow.

Gifts to the Annual Fund are used to cover expenses of the operating budget.  The Campaign, in contrast, funds building construction and endowment to reach long-term goals such as student financial aid and expanded curricular offerings.  Gifts to the Campaign are usually larger and are pledged over a three to five-year period.
