Potomac Travels to California
The Alumni Office hosted events in San Francisco and Los Angeles in February. Alumni shared memories of Potomac as they renewed old acquaintances and friends. Cort Morgan, Upper School art teacher, warmly greeted former students and new friends and exchanged ideas about the state of the School, the curriculum, and the school’s vision for the future. He eloquently described how the soul of the School has remained constant as its body has transformed. "Would one still be wearing one's shoes worn as a 5th grader? Our facilities have changed with the times." Members of Potomac faculty strive to develop the whole child and connect with each individual, based on his or her unique experiences. We must connect to our students’ hearts in order to fully develop their minds. Joining Mr. Morgan was Christine Owens, Director of Development, who provided an update on The Campaign for Potomac's Future and invited alumni to become involved in the Red/Blue Challenge.

Alumni in the News
With his outstanding play this season, Jake Gross ‘04 has established himself as the all-time winner in Tufts University’s men’s squash history. Gross entered his senior year with a career record of 36-19 and he has surged to 49 career wins with a senior season record of 13-1 thus far. With 20 losses in 69 matches, he has a .710 winning percentage. Gross is ranked 26th in the College Squash Association’s (CSA) Men’s Individual Rankings as of January 15 and came to Tufts as one of the top-ranked juniors in the United States. He stepped right in to the #1 position and won 11 of 15 matches as a freshman. With Gross at its top spot, the Tufts men’s squash program under Coach Eng has climbed the national ladder in recent seasons.

Campaign News

As many of you recall, the Red/Blue competition is one of Potomac's great traditions. Fourth through twelve graders compete for the annual cup with Capture the Flag, 3-legged races, soccer and kickball games, culminating in the great Tug of War. Every child’s effort counts toward the point total and it is remarkable how close the final tally is, year after year.
We have reached nearly 85% of our $50 million goal in The Campaign for Potomac's Future. We have built a new Upper School, will break ground for the new Lower School next month (pictured above), and will continue to grow our endowment with your support. Two longstanding priorities at Potomac are student financial assistance and faculty professional growth and that's what your campaign gifts will directly support.
Please make a contribution to the Campaign and add your name to the Red/Blue Challenge Wall which will be prominently displayed as permanent recognition of all alumni donors. Your name deserves a place on this wall and we look forward to including you.
Please join us in the new Red/Blue Challenge. Participation is the goal.

Potomac Supports Aspiring Teachers
The Potomac School, in partnership with Marymount University’s School of Education, offers a unique learning experience for exceptional, aspiring teachers. We are seeking talented men and women from diverse backgrounds who have a personal love of learning, a deep commitment to children, and a serious desire to become a teacher of children in the early and/or middle years. Paired with experienced classroom teachers, our interns work within a variety of K-6 classrooms at Potomac while simultaneously attending graduate classes at Marymount University. Interns may choose to complete coursework for their Master's degree in Elementary Education in one or two years. While in the program, interns will receive a yearly stipend of $15,000 to help support tuition costs plus the basic university health care benefits package.
Since this program is highly competitive, we strongly suggest early application for the fall 2008 program. Candidates must have a B.A. or B.S. degree from an accredited college or university. If interested, please submit a cover letter and resume to employment@potomacschool.org.
