Potomac Girls Win ISL and Boys Win MAC

On two rain-soaked days at The Potomac School, the host boys and girls track and field teams turned in performances that led to league championship victories for both. Potomac’s athletes honored Head Coach Mike Schroer by sending him off as a dual champion in his last season at the helm of the program. With tremendous overall team effort, the girls won their fifth ISL title in six seasons, while the boys repeated as MAC champions.

Potomac Senior is Presidential Scholar

Potomac senior Stephen Serene was selected as a 2008 Presidential Scholar, one of 139 outstanding U.S. high school seniors so honored. In announcing the selection, Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings said, "The 2008 Presidential Scholars shine a bright hope on the future of our country. Not only have these young graduates demonstrated exemplary discipline and achievement in academics and the arts, but they have also exhibited exceptional leadership and service to their local communities."

Students Lobby Legislators to Promote Education Act

Upper School students Allison Fisk and Chris Coe joined students from across the country on Capitol Hill April 20-23 to raise awareness for the Global Campaign for Education. Chris and Allison met with Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), a co-sponsor of the bipartisan Education for All Act of 2007, to advocate for higher levels of funding so that children around the world can have access to education.

Potomac Wins State Championship

The boys varsity basketball team captured the Virginia Independent School Division II state championship Saturday, March 1 in Petersburg, Virginia. After recovering from a 25-point deficit in the second half of the semi-finals to stun second-seed Atlantic Shores 65-59, the Panthers returned the next day to knock off top-seed Miller School. Potomac junior guard P.J. Miller was named tournament MVP; seniors Tim Prowitt and Kyle Condon were named to the all-tournament team.

Celebrate Reunion 2008 - April 25 & 26

Many special events await—Friday evening's barbecue welcomes all local alumni, past and current faculty, and their families to join with Reunion alumni. The celebration takes place in the Upper School Amphitheater with live music from 5 to 8 pm.
